Day 5 part one

I hopped out of bed the next morning, eager to start training with Zexion.

If we like each other, I thought, putting on my robe hastily, does that means that we're dating?  Am I really his... girlfriend?

Pushing thoughts of Zexion out of my mind, I pulled my hair into a high ponytail and stared at my alarm clock.  5:30?  Oh well, the early bird catches the worm!  Damn, that's cliche.

Stumbling out of my bedroom, I noticed how dark the castle was.  It was a little eerie, actually.  Especially because I could see a dim light coming from the grey room.  I walked down the hallway, tracking down the light source.  As my eyes rested on the source, I quickly ducked behind a couch in the grey room in order to hide myself.

Xemnas was carrying a lantern, the hood of his cloak covering his topaz eyes.  I could tell it was him by his exotic skin tone, which was illuminated by the lantern.  Next to him was a girl who looked about my age, with grey hair styled like cat ears.  Another person was trailing behind them, their face covered by their own cloak.

What's going on? I wondered, shifting my position, trying hard not to make a sound.  But the zipper of my cloak collided against the leg of the couch with a clang.

"Shit!" I muttered under my breath, then quickly clasped my hand over my mouth.  A chuckle rose through the air.

"Come out and play, little Xelia.  We know you're there." one of the men teased, a cackle enhancing his taunting tone.

"How'd you know I was here?" I asked nervously, standing upright.  Great question.  With all the noise I made, the whole castle probably heard me.

He snorted. "Well, you did make a bit of noise.  Then there is the fact that I've got power over space,"-he paused and I could almost hear the wicked grin in his voice-",bitch."

My lips curled into a snarl. "What gives you the right to call me a bitch, you fucking asshole?!" I snapped, trying to keep my voice level.

"Ooh, touchy, are we?" he replied with a sneer.  Then I realized who was talking to me in the first place.

"Shut the hell up, Xigbar." I quipped back, balling my hands into fists.

"Tch.  Whatever you wish, m'lady." Xigbar growled back sweetly, giving me a small bow.

"Why you fucking-" I started.

"ENOUGH!" Xemnas interjected loudly.  Besides the sound of his shuffling footsteps, I had forgotten that he was there.

We were silent for a while, until my brain screamed at me to break it.  "So...We got a new kid, huh?" I asked, changing my tone from mad to innocent.

"Yes.  This is XVI, our newest member." Xemnas answered smoothly.

"And guess who got to name her?  Me.  Her name is Rexlan." Xigbar purred in an uppity voice.

"I didn't ask you, Scarface." I barked.

"Whatever.  What the fuck ever." Xigbar said, rolling his eyes.

The new girl, Rexlan, laughed a little. "Heh, Scarface.  Nice." she complimented.

"Thanks." I said awkwardly.

"No problem.  And by the way,"-she turned to Xibar-",when I was getting my name from you... you scared the shit out of me.  Stop being so fucking creepy all the time." Rexlan asserted confidently.

Xigbar's mouth twisted, first into a mean look and then into a smirk. "Good.  I'm glad I scared you.  Though I think I'll keep on being creepy, thanks."

Xemnas glared at all of us separately. "If you all are done bickering now, then why don't we set up the meeting room for XVI's ceremony."

Rexlan's face filled wtih confusion. "Ceremony?" she asked.

"Yes," Xemnas said with a grin. "Your ceremony.  Everyone in this castle needs to know that we've got another member."

Day 4

Today was a pretty much useless day- I got to work with that tall Axel kid.  I don't really know what to make of him yet.  Honestly, I don't really care.  He's just... odd, somehow.  There is something different about him.  We do both have red hair, but his is a little more fiery red than mine.  Mine is more orange.

Axel helped me get used to my weapon a little more, but in a "I'd much rather be somewhere else" manner.  I couldn't blame him, eliminating Heartless in Twilight Town wasn't my favorite past time, either.

I carried out what he said do to until he told me it was time to RTC, or return to the castle.  Axel let me go ahead and leave, saying that he had to be somewhere.  Where could he possibly be going?

When I returned to the castle, Zexion was waiting for me.

"Can you... come into my room for a second?" he asked sheepishly.

"Uh... sure." I replied, following him to his room.

Zexion's room looked almost the same as mine, despite the bookshelves he had.

"You like reading?" I asked.

"Yeah... it gives me a chance to escape from the crazy bastards we've got around here." Zexion answered, slumping down on his bed.

I laughed. "I never thought of it that way."

"Yes, well, anyway, I should tell you why you're here." he said, brushing off my last comment as if it were a speck of dust. "Xemnas has assinged you to be my... protege for a while."

"Oh?"

"Uh-huh. He said I'd be a good mentor because 'all I do is sit and read my dumb books all time' apparently." Zexion said, making air quotes with his gloved fingers.

"Well, reading isn't a bad thing." I offered, taking a seat next to him on his bed.

"No, it isn't.  But Xemnas thinks so.  What Xemnas says, goes." he sighed, staring at his bedside table.

"That's not fair!"

"He is our superior."

"So?  Xemnas doesn't have the right to make you stop reading.  It's like how I don't have the right to make a bird stop singing just because I feel like it!" I exclaimed in an exasperated tone.

Zexion snorted. "Why should you care?  I don't understand why you should care about things that aren't your business."

I put a hand on Zexion's shoulder and looked him straight in the eye.  "Zexion, I care because I can.  I care because no one else will."

"Really?  I don't get how that would work."

"Well... Think about it.  If Xemnas told you that you could never read a single word from one your books again, then what would you do?" I asked desperately.

"I'd be angry with him."

"Would you let him do that to you?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because books are my safe haven- my sweet escape.  I don't want to live without them."

"That's how I feel about you." I explained.

"Y-you can't live without me?" Zexion stammered.

"I could... but it would be hard.  You are my only reason to not summon up my weapon use it to take myself out of this world."

Zexion stared at me with an expression of shock on his face. "That's unbelieveable."

"Believe it." I told him.

I closed my eyes and leaned into him, my mouth meeting with his with one quick movement.  Although my eyes were shut, I could see his surprised face clearly.  I let my lips linger on his for a moment, until I parted them and moved away.

"Wha-what was that?!" Zexion demanded.

"A kiss.  Ever heard of it, silly?" I joked, touching his nose briefly with my index finger.

"Yeah, in my books." Zexion reliped bashfully as a blush formed across his pale cheeks.

I giggled a little. "You can't depend on books for everything, you know."

"I know..." he answered.

"Oh, now you know," I chuckled.

"What's so funny?"

"It's cute how dependent you are on those books."

"Cute?"

"Yes."

"You think I'm cute?" he asked.

"Uh-huh."

"Well..." Zexion tralied off.

"What?  You don't think you're cute?" I inquired jokingly.

"No, it's just....I think you're a little cute." he answered, as if his tongue was playing with the words.

I smiled in a goofy way, trying to keep the feeling of euphoria down.  Zexion thought I was cute!  He really thought that the new, purple-eyed me was cute!

"Awww, really?" I asked, not able to expel the grin from my face.

"Yes." Zexion stated, taking a long, serious look into my bright eyes.

This time, Zexion was the one who kissed me.  His lips were warm and soft as they moved against mine.  I wanted the moment to last forever-Zexion and I pressed against each other as we shared our first real kiss.  When our lips left each other, I felt strangely accomplished.  He looked back at me, his eyes almost seeming to plead for more.  We would have kissed again, but we didn't, upon hearing Saix cry, "LIGHTS OUT" from the grey room.

"See you tomorrow, sensei." I said with a wink as I sprang from the bed.

"O-of course!" he stammered, the adorable blush returning to his face.

As I made my way back to my bedroom, the only thought in my head was Zexion, Zexion, Zexion.  I fell onto my bed and thought of him for the entire rest of the night.

Day 3

I opened my eyes to face the morning light that was swiftly creeping through my room from the window.  I sort of stared at the frame of the dull window for a moment, then realizing the reality of my situation.

"Oh shit." I whispered, my eyes growing wide.

I remembered that I was in a castle, full of idiots in black cloaks... then there was Zexion.  Zexion had recently become my reason to wake up and face the day.  I just wanted a chance to see him; to talk to him.  Putting thoughts of Zexion aside, I swung my legs over the side of my bed and pulled my dark cloak over my head.

Trudging into the round, grey room, I noticed a piece of paper pinned to one of the windows.

The sign read, "NO MISSIONS TODAY-VACATION".

Awesome, I thought, smiling contently to myself.

I sprinted back to my room happily, wondering what to do with this free day.  Ah!  There were so many things I could do!  For starters, I peeled off my black cloak and put on a t-shirt and a pair of striped shorts.  I then decided to mill about the castle and kind of see what I could see.

As I made my way down the halls, I could hear music coming from one of the doors.  It almost sounded like a guitar, but it was a little off.  I rapped on the door softly, wondering who played and instrument in this castle.

"Come in," a young voice called from the other side.

I opened the door and peered inside to see a boy with a brown mullet playing a big, blue instrument.

"Hi, I'm Xelia!  I just got here three days ago, so I'm sort of new here." I explained cheerfully.

"Oh, that's cool.  I'm Demyx." he replied evenly, looking back down at his guitar-type thing.

"So, what's that instrument that you're playing?" I asked, tucking a lose strand of hair behind my ear.

"Its a sitar, and it also happens to be my weapon of choice." Demyx said with a wink.

"Wow!  I've never heard of a sitar.  So it's bascially like a guitar, right?"

"You could say that."

Demyx gave a little smile as I stared at him awkwardly, trying to think of something to say.  This continued for another minute or so.

"Well, I ought to get going.  I kind of interuppted your whole practice session, didn't I?" I inquired in attempt to make a quick escape.

Demyx chucked. "Not really.  But I'm working this one song..."

"Oh, okay.  I think I should go." I mustered.

"Yeah, alright.  See you around, I guess."

"Uh-huh.  See you." I responded with a wave.

I let out a deep breath as I closed the door to Demyx's room shut.

Ugh.  That was bullshit.  I hate talking to people I hardly know. I thought uncomfortably.

My feet walked back towards my bedroom, not knowing any other direction to steer me in.  The rest of my body registered that numbly and followed after.

Now what am I going to do for the rest of the day? I wondered. Screw this- I'm just going to sleep.

I slid into bed as soon as I reached my room.  I actually was tired, now that I thought about it.  There wasn't anything else to do, anyway.  Eyes shut tight, I drifted into unconiousness and then let it take me under.

Day 2 part two

Zexion chuckled.  "I used to think that, too, when I first joined the Organization.  But after a while, I got used to it." he looked up at the ceiling and gave a half-smile.  "Oh, by the way, Saix didn't tell me your name... What is it?  Besides XV."

"I'm... Xelia." I murmured, my lip quivering.

"Xelia... that's cool." Zexion commented, saying my name as if he was trying it on for size.

"Anyway, what's this mission crap that we have to do today?" I asked, looking up at him brightly.

"We have to go to Twilight Town.  Damn, I gotta teach you to use your weapon, don't I?  Shit." Zexion spat.

"I have a weapon?!" I questioned, pride swelling inside of me.

"Yup.  Dunno what it is, but it's something." he shurged, nudging my shoulder so I would keep walking.

Zexion and I entered the grey room briskly.  I took in all the people dressed like me, sitting on couches.  All of them appeared to be male, except for a short girl with black hair and a woman with sleak blonde hair that almost looked like... antenae?  Strange hair choice, but it's not my place to tell her otherwise.  I ignored the people in the room, who stared after us expectantly.

"So, Saix, I got XV.  Now, can we go?" Zexion asked a blue-haired man impatiently.  The man had a red "X" between his eyes.

"You may." the man, Saix, said, summoning a portal with a flick of his wrist.  He nodded curtly.

Zexion stepped towards the portal, and beckoned for me to come with him.  I timidly inched foward to the swirling portal.  The pattern was almost making me sick.  Eyes shut tight, I walked into the vortex.

As quickly as I stepped into the portal, I was out.  I looked down at my gloved hands, looked at my boots, and touched my pallid face.  I was still in one piece.

"Whoa, awesome!" I exclaimed like a little girl.

"Uh-huh, sure..." Zexion said, brushing off himself with a tiny smile on his face.  "Anywho, did you see how Saix summonded that portal?"

I bobbed my head, searching his face.

"That's how you summon your weapon.  Want to try?  All you gotta do is, uh, invison a weapon in your mind, and all of your favorite things, then turn your wrist.  Your weapon should then appear in your grasp."

"See?" he mumbled as a book with symbols etched into the cover apprarated into his hand.

"You fight with a book?  How the hell do you manage to do that?!" I giggled.

"Shut up before I make you see things no one should ever see." Zexion threatened.

"Alright, alright." I muttered, the smile fading from my face.  "I guess I'll try to summon my stupid weapon..."

I flicked my wrist, concentrating hard on things the I liked to go along with something to fight with.  A burst of light came from the palm of my hand.

"Holy shit..." I gasped, dropping the magnificent instrument that had I had conjured.  It was a dark wood sythe that curved into a curl at the bottom.  The long blade was silver, with images of birds in flight, tall trees, and butterflies fighting their way out of their coccons vainly carved into the metal.  Green, lush vines hung off of the sythe.  The weapon was beautiful.

"Don't fucking drop it!" Zexion barked, picking up the sythe and handing it back to me.  I held it, not believing a weapon so awesome could be in my possession.

"Well, you certaintly don't see this everyday." I remarked, examining the sharp blade.

"Yeah... Most humans don't see us Nobodies running around everyday, either." Zexion said.

"Nobody?  How am I a nobody, you ass!" I yelled in Zexion's face.

"No, no, we're just called Nobodies 'cause we don't have hearts." he sighed.  "To get our hearts back, we have to collect Kingdom Hearts."

"What the hell is Kingdom Hearts?" I asked, feeling embarassed about yelling at Zexion.

"There are these monsters that steal hearts, and we have to defeat all of them to get our hearts back; to form Kingdom Hearts."

"Oh..."

"Yup."

Silence hung in the air.  Which was weird, because we were in a city.  There should have been people milling about, but there wasn't.  But that was okay, because we ran into some monsters and Zexion showed me how to fight them.  As we fought, he seemed to lighten up a little.  If Zexion was an ice cube, he would have been nothing but a puddle by the end of the mission.  I actually saw him laugh by right before we went back to to the castle.

As we entered the castle, Zexion told me that I had done a good job fighting the monsters, which were callled Heartlessess.  I blushed like mad and thanked him.  He smiled and headed back to his room.  I walked to my own bedroom, feeling like I was walking on air.

Is it possible to have a crush on someone if you don't have a heart?

Day 2 part one

When I opened my eyes in the morning, I quickly shut them again.  I knew that those people out there were trying to convince me that my heart was gone.  Gone?  It can't be.

Just a few more minutes, I thought. I don't want to face those idiots right now.

"Hey, kid, get up." A voice called out.  I felt a hand reach out and shake me.

"I'm not a kid!" I muttered into my pillow.

"Okay, whatever." The voice said.  I could now identify that the voice was male, but not one that I reconized.

Suddenly, visions started to trickle into my mind.  They were scary. The visions showed people suffering, screaming, bleeding, and dying.  It was horrid.  Actually, it was the worst thing I had ever seen.

I realized after a few minutes that I was clutching my head and crying out, begging for the images to stop.

"PLEASE!  STOP! ARGH-" I screamed as the visions cut off abrubtly.

I shot up and stared at the person before me.  He was tall and lean, looking only a few years older than myself.  His eyes were shockingly sapphire blue in color.  His hair was silver-blue, and covered the right side of his face.  He also happened to be quite muscular.  Despite his good looks, I still mustered the courage to yell at him.

"Did you do that?  What the fuck was that for?!  And I'm not a kid, I am sixteen damn years old!" I snapped.

He put up his hands in defense.  "Yeah, I did that.  I've got the power over illusions, you know?  You looked like a kid when you were laying down, anyway.  I couldn't see your face." the boy said calmly.

I opened my mouth to speak, but I could not find the right words to say.

"Whatever." he scoffed, rolling his eyes. "You've got your first mission with me today.  Dunno why the hell Saix or Axel couldn't have taken you, but I got nothing else to do.  So, here I am." he said, gesturing to himself, a smile playing on his thin lips. "By the way, I'm Zexion."

As Zexion and I made our way towards the grey room, his hand brushed against mine breifly.  My face grew hot, but I couldn't keep the smile off my face.  When he touched me this time, I saw good things instead of bad.  A beautiful meadow, a babbling stream, a mother cuddling her newborn baby.  These images made me feel warm and happy inside.  I inhaled deeply, taking in the bliss.  I saw Zexion smirk out of the corner of my eye.

Zexion kept walking, but something moving caught my eye.  I whipped, around to face the moving thing, but I realized that it was only the two of us.  I stared into a large mirror in what appeared to be a bathroom.  As I studied my own face, my eyes grew wide. My lavender eyes.

My arm shot out automatcially and grabbed Zexion's.

"Zexion, my eyes are purple." I breathed, not believing what I was seeing.

"Yes, I can see that." Zexion replied, staring at me with a perplexed expression.

"They are- Well, were, brown." I stated, gripping his arm tighter.  I touched my eyes to see if I was wearing contacts or something.

"Oh, Saix did say that sometimes our appearences becomes what we wanted them to be back in our old lives."

"Old... lives?" I wondered aloud.

"Yeah... Don't you remeber yours?"

I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to remember a past life.  Images of a happy, carefree, ginger-haired girl with mud brown eyes filled my brain.  The girl was often seen with various people who were also laughing and smiling.  They looked about high-school age.

My eyes flung open.  Those were my memories.  I was the joyful girl with the red hair and brown eyes.  That was my life.  I was the one who had it made in the shade; with her whole life ahead of her.  She had no worries.  But the new me did.  The new me also had purple eyes and stupid bastards chasing after her, demanding that she do their work.  The nerve of those assholes!

"Yes, I remember my old life.  It was good.  Probably better than this shit that's going on here." I almost yelled.

Day 1

Today I entered Organization XIII (13).  They told me my that my name was Xelia.  I am number XV.  The man that told me this is called Xemnas, or superior.  He's number I.  His hair is a dull shade of gray, but he does not look old in the face. I tried not to speak.  I was pretty much afraid of my own voice.  When he explained that I was to be put on a mission in a few days, I squeaked a "thank you" and left.  My bedroom was the third door down in the hallway, I was told.  I accidently opened the second door, recieving a right shock at what was inside the door.

Two men, wearing robes similar to mine, were cuddling and kissing each other.  One of them had pink hair, and the other had blonde hair.  My eyes grew wide as I witnessed the scene.  The men snapped their heads toward me and started to get up off of the white bedspread.  They were angry, I could tell.  My mind told me to run, and so I did.  As I ran out of the room, I heard the clatter of metal and I suddenly felt very cold.  I was almost freezing, even though I was content just moments ago.  It felt very odd.

I flung open the third door and collapsed on the bed, panting heavily.

"Oh gosh!  Oh my gosh!" I breathed, slithering under the covers in attempt to hide myself.

The men didn't come and find me, but I heard them in the next room.  After a couple minutes of hiding, I imerged from under the sheets.  That's when I realized that I was missing something.  My heart should have been beating, but it was not.

"W-what the hell?!" I exclaimed, grasping my chest tightly.  Something was wrong with me.  Maybe Superior could help me.

"Xemnas!" I called, bursting into the gray room.

"What is it, number XV?" He sighed.

"My heart isn't beating!" I yelled furiously.

The other people who dressed in the same black cloaks as I threw their heads back and laughed.

"WE DON'T HAVE HEARTS!" they chuckled.

An expression of confusion planted itself firmly across my face.

"I-I don't understand." I stuttered nervously.

Xemans laid a hand on my shoulder.  "That is the reason we're here.  To regain our hearts.  You are here with us because you have one thing in common with all us, darling.  We don't have hearts." he said calmly.

Xemnas turned his tall body towards me a little more, and grabbed my chin so I would look at him straight in the eye.  I fought to look away, but I couldn't.  Xemnas's eyes were a yellow-orange, which was strange.  I didn't know that people could have eyes of such a color.  I stopped thinking about his eyes for a moment and narrowed my eyes in a glare.  An unease was spreading about me, making me feel like their was absolutely nothing inside of me, no brain, no blood, no structure.  It was a curious sensation.

He removed his hand from my chin, jerking his hand away so that my head snapped to the side.  I rubbed my face where he had touched me, feeling spreading back into my body slowly.

"But more about that tomorrow.  Get some rest, XV." Xemnas stated sharply, his words cold and acidic.

Atleast that bastard let go of me, I thought as Xemnas shuffled away.  And why the hell did he call me "darling"?  I am most certainly not his "darling".

"Ugh..." I muttered as my heavy feet caried me back to the third door in the hallway.  I would have cried, but I didn't, because I found that I could not cry.  Luckily, sleep took me into her welcoming arms and gave me a dreamless night.
